The Cultural significance of Blue in Fashion

Paul Eluard said: “la terre est bleue comme une orange” which literally translates as Earth is blue like an orange, a metaphor highlighting the round shape of Mother Nature.

Many other intellectuals were inspired by the colour blue, especially Yves Klein who created the eponymous colour.

Years later, the colour is still celebrated. Also known as cobalt blue, the hue is worn to remember that fashion is connected with art – which is actually the theme of the Met Gala this year. Victoria Beckham, Tom Ford, Gucci and many other designers honoured the trend during their latest shows.

The connection between fashion and art is dear to my heart. In fact this connection inspired me to create my magazine back in 2016. My first article Fashion Forward stressed the link between fashion and art and I still insist on the cultural aspects of fashion today. Fashion not only interact but they coexist. Fashion is art and vice versa.

How to turn your outfit into an artwork?

-the vintage shirt:

Pair a Klein shirt with a Gucci scarf, flare trousers and black Italian leather mules and you are good to go.

-a blue dress and brown boots

I love boots and can wear them all year long. The trend is especially nice pairing a flowy dress with chocolate brown boots with block heels.

-colourful shoes

Copenhaguen streets were filled with colourful blue sandals, adding spark to outfits.

What is your favourite way of wearing Klein blue?

Let me know,

XO
