JW Anderson: mastering the art of trompe l’œil

You probably remember the “Lays” bag by Balenciaga. Well JW Anderson imagined another savoury bag called the “Victoria sponge”. The brand is known for its unisex attire in continuity with the flapper movement and the will to redefine fashion codes.

The current bag collection of the brand is interesting as it suggests another way of seing fashion. Not only does the Victoria sponge bag blur the boundary between fashion and art but it incites to perceive fashion as art. Cake or bag the viewer decides. What a trompe l’œil.

The brand also created other artsy bags : the cap bag which comes handy for winter as well as the scarf bag.
