Hello everyone! I hope you are well. As some of you may know, one of the things I find fascinating and often mention in my blog is the link between fashion and art.
Thus, this article will mention Yves Saint Laurent’s ties with art, based on a conference I attended at the Saint Laurent museum, held by Laurent le Bon, président of the Picasso museum in Paris.
Saint Laurent’s collections were highly inspired by art. The fashion designer was influenced by several artists, namely Mondrian, Picasso, Warhol, Van Gogh and Braque.

During fall 1965, YSL paid a tribute to Mondrian, transforming his creations into a form of line vertigo. He was probably fond of the artist because he resorted to symetry. YSL stated: “I have nothing against lack of order by I like symetry.”
YSL’s creations explored different geometric shapes. He used many of Picasso’s graphic works. The fashion designer was close to the artist: he would draw on all supports.
YSL was linked to a multidimensional form of art. If he resorted to drawing in his works, he admired the architectural dimension of art as well. Hence, numerous YSL fashion shows took place at the Pompidou Museum and his creations were first displayed at the fashion and art museum.
NB: the conference took place on March 14th 2018 and was in French. My article is inspired by Laurent le Bon’s sayings while voicing my own thoughts and take on the topic.
More information on YSL and his relation to art in my in depth article on the YSL museum in Paris https://lafashionbubble.wordpress.com/?s=Saint+Laurent+
I would like to thank my mum who was by my side during the conference and who keeps supporting me day by day ❤
What is your favorite YSL creation? Have you been to the YSL museum?
Let me know.
