Fashion is an ambivalent world. It has its rules, its codes, its trends. The most difficult thing to do is be fashionable while having your own style. Be the unique, the one and only you and show it through your clothing: in other words be like Philip Plein’s consumers.
I admire most designers as they show they master trends and how they transform them into a work of art reflecting their personality. But I particularly respect Philipp Plein: he knows how to stand out while still being an icon of success respected by fashion influencers.
His style is anything but common, inspired by street wear, kitsch and as he says himself “strong, sexy and shiny”.
His fans are numerous: football players like David Beckham, Mario Balotelli… rap singers such as Iggy Azalea, Snoop Dogg, Madonna… Vogue’s Catherine Roitfeld and Franca Sozzani.
During NYFW world-known models such as Anwar Hadid, and celebrities like Sofia Richie and Fetty Wap paraded for him.
I admire his courage and confidence. I know the fashion industry can be really stressful and it can be hard not being too influenced by other designers or by trends… I am not saying I am against trends. I am just saying fashion is yearning for change and Philip Plein is the change fashion is looking for. He designs for clients “who have their own style, who feel confident, who want to stand out, to be different from others”.
So be yourself and find your own style. Follow your own rules. Don’t be afraid to be dressed too oddly or unusually. Enter Philip Plein’s world and rethink it your way.
I count on you.
